Such research clearly establishes the need for online media literacy, yet very few studies have addressed how to teach the topic most effectively. Researchers and educators describe examples of media literacy instruction from kindergarten through college, but evaluations of these efforts are rare (Hobbs, 2004).
Research findings suggest that individuals with more Internet experience are more likely to report that they verify the actual credibility of information they find online (Flanagin and Metzger, 2000, Flanagin and Metzger, 2007) implying a positive relationship between online experience, or access, and information literacy. In the research, it provides a definition for media literacy as (1) media access, (2) gathering and selection of information, and (3) self expression.
